It's about halfway through the season and I just wanted to thank everyone who has supported us so far and tell you about some upcoming events. We are now up to 7 miles for our long runs/walks- more than halfway to that half marathon! We also have a good start with our fundraising, but we still need a lot of help there. We are at about $1700 toward our goal of $8700. With your help, we have raised quite a bit so far, but there is still a long way to go in our fight against blood cancers!
Please contribute what you can and join us at our upcoming events if you're in the area.
March 28: Soup supper and bake sale at North Crow River Lutheran Church in Cokato, MN. Enjoy a variety of homemade soups and take home some delicious baked goods. $5 minimum donation per person.
April 12: Pampered Chef party at Becca's apartment in St. Paul, MN. Purchase your favorite Pampered Chef items from the full catalog and 15% of sales will go to LLS. Email Becca at becca@alumni.uchicago.edu to RSVP and get directions.
You may also place your order online at http://www.pamperedchef.biz/maryalbright. Enter Becca Nelson as the host to have your order count toward the fundraiser. We can ship to anywhere in the country!
April 17: Bootleggers Beer Bust, 8 to 10 pm. Purchase a cup from the TNT table for $5 and fill it with domestic taps or rail drinks for only $1 as many times as you want! Be sure to come out early to get the most for your money and show your support for the Team! Bootleggers is located at 323 North 1st Avenue in Downtown Minneapolis.
As always, you can donate directly to LLS through our website. Hope to see you soon!

Spring in February?
I just got back from a lovely run out around my neighborhood in St. Paul. About 3 miles and it felt great! I absolutely love this weather this time of year: bright sunshine, temps in the 30s. It's still cold compared to San Diego, but it's beautiful for February in Minnesota! If this weather keeps up, I'll have no problem keeping up my training! Now if only we could do something about those slushy puddles...
As for the fundraising, we are almost ready to send out all of our official letters, so if we have your address, be expecting one in the mail soon. We are up to $498.54 towards our $8700 goal. It's a good start, but still a long way to go. Please consider giving what you can. Your donation will help save lives by supporting valuable research and funding patient services for people living with blood cancer. I am so honored to run in support of this cause and so grateful to anyone who supports the cause financially. You can donate online though our team site at http://pages.teamintraining.org/mn/rnr10/AndysAngels, which also links to all three of our individual sites, or send your check, payable to LLS, to me at:

First Team Training
Yesterday was our first training run/walk of the season. After running in 14 degree weather, San Diego sure sounds wonderful! Although it was cold, it was very exciting to get out with the Team again and meet some of out other teammates. Kristen from the LLS office said this is the largest team she has trained with yet- GO TEAM!
All three of us successfully made it around Lake Calhoun, which is 3 miles. Not bad for our first outing of the season! I am feeling it in my legs a little today, but I can't wait to get out running again.
I had a chance to talk to my mentor and another teammate after the run, both of whom have some very personal stories with cancer. My mentor, Bonnie, is the mother of one of our honored teammates, Brenden. Brenden is 6 years old and was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in October 2006. This young boy's story is truly an inspiration. He had his last spinal tap in December, and he is scheduled to take his last chemo pill this month! Brenden likes to play outside with his trucks and four-wheelers and ride his bike. He likes to go swimming and fishing, and he is also a Cub Scout. Thanks to much research funded by LLS, Brenden is still able to enjoy these activities and just be a kid.
I had a very nice conversation with a teammate named Heidi. We had met briefly last year when I ran with the duathlon team one week with my friend, Mindy, and Heidi's husband was also on the Twin Cities Marathon team with me. We chatted a bit about our past events, and then she asked me how I got involved with TNT. I told her about our Andy's Angels team in memory of my grandpa, and then asked her how she got involved. A few years ago, she herself had cancer. Her husband saw an info sheet at the hospital for TNT and decided to join. Since then, he has participated in seven TNT events, and Heidi decided to join as well a couple years ago. She now works for LLS, and she is cancer-free!
The more time I spend with TNT, the more people I meet who have been so closely affected by cancer. It is so wonderful to hear success stories like Brenden and Heidi, but there are still so many cancer patients who are not this fortunate. All of these stories give me so much more motivation to keep running and raising funds to fight these cancers and improve the quality of life for those who have to experience them. I am so proud and honored to be a part of a team that is "saving lives, one mile at a time"!

Welcome to our TNT blog!
Welcome to our blog! We are Sue, Andrea, and Becca, a mother-daughters team with The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team In Training (TNT). For the next four months, we will be training to complete the Rock 'N' Roll San Diego Half Marathon on June 6, 2010, while raising at least $8700 to fight blood cancers. We are training in memory of our dad and grandpa, Andy Kne, who lost his battle with leukemia in 2005, and we call our team Andy's Angels in his honor. Andrea and Becca have collectively completed three TNT events in the past and raised nearly $9000 for the cause. This will be Sue/Mom's first event, and we are so proud of her for joining us! We will use this page to update you on our training and fundraising progress and share stories from our journey.
